23 incubatees, alumni and Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) grantees joined a China delegation “Mainland Expedition on Entrepreneurship and Technology (MEET) 香港創業青年内地行” organised by Our Hong Kong Foundation and supported by industry players including Cyberport in October to better understand the Mainland’s latest digital technology and ICT development.
The participants could choose one of four side trips, which included visits to Hangzhou with a focus on Fintech and e-commerce, Xian, Wuhan and Jinan focusing on AI; IoT and robotics, industry 4.0 and Connected Life for visits to incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces, local start-ups and tech giants, and then assembled together in Beijing for an ICT conference, corporate visits and took part in seminars and panel discussions to facilitate market information exchange.
“The delegation was a helpful introduction to China’s technology scene. The opportunity in Hangzhou and Beijing allowed me insights into the running of different tech companies, accelerators and co-working spaces including Alibaba Group, NetEase (163.com), Microsoft Venture Accelerator, Phoenix TV; National High-Tech Industrial Development Zones and Zhongguancun Science Park. The expedition was beneficial because I could connect directly with entrepreneurs and investors. I also enjoyed connecting with other Hong Kong entrepreneurs, sharing our experiences and becoming good friends,” said Gary Luk, CEO of Pear Limited, one of the delegates.
“We are very happy with the good turnout. This was a great opportunity for start-ups to network, build up their contact database and learn more about what’s moving the market on the Mainland,” said Herman Lam, CEO of Cyberport.
