Cyberport Macro Fund adds Singaporean HealthTech company DocDoc as its 8th investee

The Cyberport Macro Fund (CMF) is pleased to announce that DocDoc, Asia’s leading patient empowerment company, headquartered in Singapore, has become the fund’s 8th investee. DocDoc combines an AI-powered doctor discovery platform with exceptional customer service to effectively connect patients to high quality specialised care based on each patient’s unique medical needs.

Commenting on the investment, Dr Lee George Lam, Chairman of Cyberport, expects DocDoc’s business model to introduce “new momentum and innovation to the insurance market in Hong Kong and Asia”. This is especially important during a time when Hong Kong’s InsurTech and smart living innovations and start-ups are starting to take off.

Unlike the usual HealthTech platforms that merely list out doctors from the directories, and read or post reviews, DocDoc’s platform combines clinical informatics, AI, and healthcare quality assessment to match insured patients with qualified specialists based on verified metrics. Each panel of recommended physicians is uniquely customised to suit the medical needs of the patient’s condition or requested procedure.

The company has built a network of more than 23,000 doctors across eight countries under contract, all of whom are thoroughly vetted and are selected to join the network based on their expertise. To ensure transparency and to avoid conflicts of interest, DocDoc does not charge or pay a fee to the participating doctors. Instead, the monetisation of the platform comes in the form of a subscription fee paid by insurance companies for access to this value-added service that helps their policyholders make informed medical decisions.

With this new capital injection, DocDoc will be setting up a new branch office at Cyberport and will be using it as a base to strengthen its network of doctors, expand its insurance footprint in the region and provide data-driven doctor discovery services to insurance policyholders.

DocDoc currently has offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Since launching in 2016, the CMF has already co-invested in 8 promising Cyberport start-ups and will continue helping the community’s aspiring digital entrepreneurs to take off.
