Start-ups strengthen their pitch with 500 Startups
Cyberport is dedicated to offer world-class nurturing opportunities for start-ups to accelerate their growth and enhance deal making capabilities. 98 budding entrepreneurs from 60 start-ups learned the ins and outs of VC pitching from 500 Startups during the Cyberport Angel Investor Pitch Training back in May.
The two-day training, co-organised by Cyberport and 500 Startups, covered an array of subjects pertinent to start-ups. The participants, most of them newly admitted incubatees, learnt about term sheets, go-to-market strategies, and series-A fundraising. They picked up essentials of the best practices and killer pitches from VCs and successful entrepreneurs, and received live feedback on their practice pitches.
The 10 most outstanding teams selected by 500 Startups attended the Cyberport Start-up Pitch Day on 25 May to hone their pitching skills further before a panel of judges. The three teams with most remarkable performances were Miro, a sports-focused AI start-up; Fillony Limited (PolarSeal), a start-up that specialises in IoT and high-tech clothing; and Wildfaces, an AI facial recognition start-up.
Speaking about the outcome of the training, Alice So, Senior Manager of the Entrepreneurs Team, said: “Start-ups and Cyberport alike treasured the training given by the world-class VCs at 500 Startups. Apart from learning to-the-point skills and advice from renowned investors, the start-ups gained direct access to the venture team of 500 Startups and explored funding and mentorship support from this VC giant.”
Chui Tak Man, Founder of Swish Capital Limited, agreed, saying that “the all-round event covered many practical aspects that an entrepreneur will face.”
Alexander Nicol, CEO of Abida Medical Limited, said that he learnt a lot. “I found the term sheet negotiation information really useful. I was also inspired by the real-life examples from the training.”
The next Cyberport Angel Investor Pitch Training will be held on 24–25 October. Interested start-ups can register HERE on first-come-first-served basis.
