UMix Music App knocks down entry barrier for music production ![]()
Ever wanted to express yourself through music but lacked the skills? Or desired to bring masterpieces to life but without budget?
Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) grantee UMix Music will soon put an end to these frustrations with the launch of the UMix Music App Project, which will make music production more accessible to everyone. It also helps transform the traditional music industry to the digital music world. The UMix Music App Project draws on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital audio processing techniques in the form of voice-to-MIDI conversion, key signature detection, chord detection and rhythm detection algorithms to enable users to produce complete digital music work anytime anywhere just by humming a melody. This not only significantly reduces the complexity that comes with traditional music composition but also lowers the high barrier, steep budget and learning curve so often associated with music production. Users can even export and share their completed music work with the rest of the music community. The iOS version has been launched in May 2018 and the company plans to first partner with local pop musicians and secondary schools before taking the innovative solution to Taiwan and Mainland China. “Cyberport provides a dynamic start-up environment, bridging us with other start-ups and mentors. We started as a small team. CCMF has given us a great boost and accelerated our project. We are very pleased to be supported by Cyberport,” said Kenneth Au, co-founder of UMix Music Limited. The UMix Music App is the Grand and Gold Award winner in The Student Innovation Category of ICT Awards 2018 and has gained plenty of limelight and interest from the media.
