HedgeSPA’s investment platform shares limelight with heavyweights
Cyberport incubatee HedgeSPA was recently profiled in the latest global InvestTech ecosystem inforgraphic, alongside the likes of BlackRock, Aladdin and Bloomberg, firmly solidifying the start-up’s position as a rising star amid the financial services sector.
HedgeSPA was created in 2011 as a spin-off from the Singapore Management University. In part financed by the Singapore government, the company’s entire technology and business model risk has been underwritten by state grants, alleviating it from financial burden, and allowing HedgeSPA to fully focus on pursuing the best platform possible.
“This means HedgeSPA can truly deliver BlackRock quality investment fully adapted for the Asian market and data,” explained Dr. Bernard Lee, Founder and CEO of HedgeSPA.
The front-to-back core investment platform on the cloud and behind secured firewalls enables institutional investors to access sophisticated analytics tools that help with asset selection, portfolio construction and rebalancing as well as decision making and execution, at a fraction of the cost of other similar services offered by the market.
The platform’s automated workflow process cuts down on product fees while consistent alpha generation from its asset selection can help produce convincing total returns.
“With its extensive contacts in business, government and investor communities, Cyberport has provided us with the opportunity to fail often enough and explore our potential,” added Dr Lee.
Looking ahead, the company is working on procuring a state-of-the-art supercomputer, and setting up a major R&D center in Hong Kong that will include collaborating with local and global universities.
There are plans to tap into the United Arab Emirates through the setup of a new entity in the Dubai International Financial Center. The award-winning platform also hopes to expand its global reach through the formation of yet another corporation in Shanghai’s Pudong area.
