Vol. 109 September 2017 Cyberport FinTech Delegation to London lays important groundwork for future success Cyberport and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) brought the strong FinTech delegation of over 70 innovators and industry partners to London, to better understand the latest industry trends and forge strategic partnerships between the two cities. The mission, with representatives from the government, banks, investors, professional bodies and Cyberport start-ups, expanded the partnership network for FinTech industry players, fostered business and investment opportunities, as well as reinforced Hong Kong as Asia’s leading FinTech hub. In particular, UK counterparts were afforded an insightful understanding of why Hong Kong is such an important destination for FinTech development, its strategic location as a springboard into the rest of Asia, Belt and Road markets and other continents, as well as its booming tech ecosystem and support from the government. By co-hosting a thematic session on FinTech at “Think Asia Think Hong Kong” Symposium with Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the UK counterparts grasped how Cyberport has established a strong foundation with good resources, support and network to further develop business abroad. The delegates visited the Level 39, Accenture FinTech Innovation Lab London, Royal Bank of Scotland and met with local FinTech firms and investors to exchange insights and discuss on driving FinTech development. A highlight of the trip was Cyberport incubatee TNG Fintech Group’s announcement of launching cross-continent e-banking platform in UK which expands TNG’s global e-wallet service to 14 countries. “The delegation was a strong demonstration of the digital tech ecosystem that Cyberport aims to build. FinTech is essential to digital transformation, and we see a huge potential for our economy and the strong momentum in this sector. We are committed to propelling our start-ups like TNG towards the global stage and adding strong impetus to the economic growth of Hong Kong. We shall welcome our UK counterparts to come to Hong Kong, as when they "Think FinTech, Think Cyberport", explained Dr Lee George Lam, Chairman of Cyberport.
