Cyberport supports National Olympiad in Informatics for second year
|
Cyberport backed the Hong Kong team at this year’s National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) in Sichuan in July. The NOI is part of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), a global programming competition for secondary school students.
The Hong Kong team representative Wong Yik Chun from the Pui Ching Secondary School and four other Hong Kong team members competed at the NOI. The local team brought home three bronze medals. Wong Yik Chun also represented Hong Kong at the IOI in Russia in August.
These competitions challenged contestants with algorithmic tasks. Participants were also expected to demonstrate IT skills in problem analysis, the design of algorithms, data structures, programming and testing.
The objective of both events, at the national and international level, is to stimulate interest in informatics and IT as well as bring talented students together to share scientific and cultural experiences.
“These events are of huge importance. We are happy to be sponsoring the Hong Kong team and co-organising the NOI Hong Kong regional contest for the second year running. The competition’s focus on informatics and programming for secondary school students is very much aligned with Cyberport’s public mission of promoting coding education among youth,” explained Toa Charm, Chief Public Mission Officer of Cyberport.
